The pandemic has drastically altered the traditional workplace, causing a drastic shift in employee lifestyles and livelihoods. Not only have remote jobs skyrocketed, but also companies are now making an effort to bring people back to work – prioritising employee flexibility, comfort and wellbeing.

As Millenials become the bosses of the upcoming Generation Z in 2023, they must keep up with the new work culture and key trends in order to be successful. Let’s take a look at how employment will evolve over the next decade due to technical, generational, and societal advancements.

Mobility & Flexibility

Hybrid working is here to stay, and has become the norm for many employees across the globe. Working from anywhere, anytime, on any device has become more popular, with 62% of people feeling comfortable with this arrangement. The primary purpose of the office is to be a hub for creative collaboration, team building, and personal development, and companies must look at creating commute-worthy spaces to make their employees want to come to work. A survey revealed that employees looked for three main things when it came to flexibility: the ability to control their work schedule, paid leaves, and stability in their work schedule.

Globalisation

Globalisation allows organisations to expand their businesses to a global market, and hiring global talent promotes diversity and inclusivity. Businesses must establish new employee rules and procedures due to the growing cultural diversity, as this competition allows them to control prices and access better resources.

Quiet Hiring

In 2023, HR professionals will reverse the concept of “Quiet Quitting” with “Quiet Hiring” – gaining talent and skills without recruiting new full-time staff. This will be made possible through internal talent mobility, allowing employees to handle important tasks without changing headcount, as well as opportunities to stretch and upskill.

Non-Traditional Talent Pool

Organisations have started becoming more flexible with job prospects that may not fit the traditional mould, and are no longer interested in industry experience and technical expertise. Non-traditional candidates have backgrounds in different sectors, are career changers, or are returning to the workforce after a period of time away. It is essential to challenge preconceived notions about credentials in order to successfully fill significant roles in 2023.

At the end of the day, it’s all about providing employees with the best working environment possible – happy employees, happy business!
