How can Meditation leads to a state of Well-being?

In response to the current coronavirus crisis, the team of Urban Yoga Lab put together a small guide on how to find calmness and balance through integrating meditation into our lives daily.

Here are some facts you may not know about meditation:

  • Meditation Can Increase Happiness and Well-being

We all want to be comfortable and happy, and want to experience a sense of well-being in our lives. However, meditation can help with that by enhancing the flow of productive thoughts and the release of positive emotions (Read Here: How to Make Peace With Your Difficult Emotions). Spending only a few minutes to meditate habitually can make an enormous difference.

A lot of people experience difficulty in starting their day. If you struggle to be productive or start your day, try to meditate, it can help since it increases our levels of feel-good enzymes/chemicals, such as endorphins and serotonin. This way, you will have a clearer view of your life and your purpose.

  • Meditation Helps You Manage Anxiety and Stress

Since meditation is about breathing (Register now for one of Urban Yoga Lab’s Breathing Techniques sessions) and letting go, you will be turning off the negative chatter that creates anxiety. By focusing on positive energy and thoughts, you can reduce the anxiety that you might be holding onto.

Through meditation you can relax knowing that any time anxiety rears its ugly head, you have the tools to deal with it. Deep breaths and a quiet moment may be all that’s needed to calm anxious nerves. Also, by focusing on moment-by-moment experiences, meditation can train the mind to stay calm, even in stressful situations. Along with this, they also experience significantly less anxiety due to uncertainty about the future.

  • Meditation Sharpens Your Memory

Apart from enhancing your happiness and improving your overall well-being, meditation can also help your memory stay sharp and to increase your concentration. With mindfulness meditation, you train in remaining aware of the present moment in a non-judgmental manner.

Consequently, the distractions are less and less likely to sweep you away – just one more reason why you should meditate.

Furthermore, it is very easy to incorporate meditation into our lives. All we need is a quiet place to sit and a couple of uninterrupted minutes. You can even use a guided meditation app such as Calm or Headspace (both available on Apple and Google Play Store)

Try it out, if you meditate for only five minutes, it can have a significant impact on your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
